Health Success As Senior? Yes, Absolutely!

"You're Never Too Old To Chase Your Dream"

This is what Diana Nyad said after she became the first person in history to swim - without a shark cage - from Cuba to Florida.

She accomplished this incredible feat of 110 miles in open waters on September 2, 2013 at the age of 64. It took her 53 hours to set this record.

You may think this is something only uniquely gifted people can do. Valid point. Diana has broken many records and has risen to fame.

However, you and I can still take away great lessons from this.

Like encouragement.

Because you, dear reader, are never too old to chase your dream. This was Diana's fifth attempt in 35 years!

That is determination.

She had prepared for this swim by training for many months. Her workouts started with nonstop swimming for 12 hours. She then increased her workload up to 14 hours, 18, 20, and 24 hours.

That is perseverance.

Whatever it is you want to accomplish in your pursuit of long-term health as a senior, be that weight loss, healthier nutrition, reversal of a chronic condition, mental acuity or longevity – with reasonable health goals and a good plan, as well as determination and perseverance – you can achieve your dream!

You too are uniquely gifted.

In the near future, I will offer more examples of great feats such as today's.

I'll also present everyday people and their accomplishments.

I'll show you how these may apply to your own needs and abilities.

By the way, Diana Nyad already announced further plans. In October 2013, she will be participating in "Swim for Relief" - a continuous, 48 hour swim in a 120 foot pool in New York City's Herald Square. This event will benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Why am I mentioning this?

I firmly believe that it is vital to continuously have something to look forward to. Make time for living! Make time for challenges!

One of the goals of is to show you how to live a longer and healthier life by learning from many different older adults, including centenarians.

These long-lived individuals tell us that one of the secrets of longevity is to always have health goals, accept healthy challenges and continue to stay very active, both physically and socially.

You can look forward to lots of encouraging information in future editions of this newsletter.
