Detox Foods
Super Fuel

Detox foods play a vital role in your overall well-being.

So, what are they?

As the name implies – detox foods help rid your body of toxins that have built up…

Some of my SeniorHealthSuccess clients complain of feeling lethargic. They start their day feeling tired, lacking energy. They're just listless.

What causes this?

Yesterday's overindulgence? Sleep apnea? Stress? Depression?

Well, it could be any of the above, but these seniors would most likely be well aware of the causes. As would you, I'm sure.

By the way, mere aging has nothing to do with all this. Myths not withstanding…

The Effects of Toxic Food

You may, however, be unaware of the effects that toxic foods have on your body. I'm speaking of dietary toxins accumulating in your body from processed, unhealthy foods, aka "edible food-like substances."

Besides many other undesirable side effects, these foods are main contributors to my clients' feeling lethargic most of the time.

A Plant-Based Diet For Detox?

I am endorsing a whole foods, plant-based diet throughout this website. And for very good reason, as you will now see…

Neutralizing and eliminating dietary toxins from your body is a natural, ongoing process called detoxification. But only un- or minimally processed, nutrient-dense, fresh plant foods can do this.

Your body is desperately trying to heal itself.

I am about to reintroduce you to vast numbers of highly effective detox foods that support and even speed this process.

Some of the many benefits you gain from making these detox foods a part of a healthy diet are the presence of

  •   Vitamins and minerals
  •    Antioxidants
  •    Fiber (soluble and especially insoluble)
  •    Phytonutrients
  •    Essential amino acids

Many plant foods contain compounds that help your liver produce enzymes for the purpose of detox.

Others have anti-viral properties. Some help eliminate radioactive waste. Many bind to and remove heavy metals and other impurities.

Your blood is constantly attempting to stabilize its pH balance (acid-alkaline homeostasis). There are great plant foods aiding that.

In my research I have found numerous foods that are considered detox "superfoods."

I hesitate to list them here, as most plant foods are superfoods in more ways than one. They all have thousands of phytonutrients that work in synergy to detox your body and keep it in optimal health.

Why hesitate? I firmly believe a great variety in plant-strong nutrition is better than concentrating on a few superfoods.

Okay, here are some of them…

Lemons are loaded with Vitamin C and are alkaline. Starting your day with a warm glass of water with lemon is highly recommended.

Green tea with your breakfast is an antioxidant-rich fluid that helps flush toxins out of the body.

Add fresh fruit (high in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber) to your unprocessed breakfast cereal. Yes, frozen or dried fruit count, too. Start your day right…

I won't make this into a meal plan. Let me simply give you a list of detox superfoods that are mentioned in related literature.

All of them have a multitude of incredible benefits for your health:

  • Ginger, garlic, onions
  • Kale, broccoli, collard greens, Swiss chard,  arugula, cauliflower
  • Fennel, parsley, beets, avocado, artichoke, water cress
  • Almonds, flaxseeds, cashews, walnuts
  • Quinoa, amaranth, chia, brown rice, buckwheat, millet

I could go on with legumes, berries and mushrooms. I think you get the idea. Whatever whole plant food items you may think of – add them here!

The point is this.

Going through this list of vegetables and fruits that are ALL considered detox foods, I recognize the following:

What I have reintroduced to you today as a lineup of individual detox foods really adds up to an almost complete whole foods, plant-based diet!

So, what all this means is simply this:

By enjoying a vegetarian/vegan diet you consume an incredible abundance of detox foods BY DEFAULT – it's automatic! Isn't that wonderful?

Changing to and adopting a healthy diet will do wonders for your health as senior. It'll keep your body and brain in optimal working order.

Soon, you'll get up in the morning with plenty of energy to live life to the fullest.
