The Standard American Diet is the stereotypical diet of Americans.
It's also called the SAD diet. And sad it is.
After mentioning this "dietary habit" numerous times on many pages of SeniorHealthSuccess.com, it occurred to me that this topic warranted a page of its own.
The SAD diet is even worse than what the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) dreadful "Dietary Guidelines for Americans" recommend.
The USDA was created for developing federal government policy on farming, agriculture, forestry, and food. It's there to meet the needs of farmers and ranchers, and to promote agricultural trade and production.
Sounds good. But the truth is this...
The agency is clearly beholden to the money interests of the agriculture industry. Big Ag, Big Beef, Big Dairy et al are in strong control of whatever comes out of the USDA.
The American consumer is led by the nose. Right to the golden arches.
From there it's not far to the Pearly Gates.
The SAD diet consists of more than 42 percent (of calories) animal foods (often a lot more!) and 51 percent processed foods.
Much of the only 5 percent plant food consumed is genetically engineered -- and about half of these plant foods are potatoes (one of the less nutritious vegetables) - in the form of disease-promoting fries and chips.
The rest is made of worthless and toxic “edible food-like substances.” Mainly excess sugar, salt, and fat.
I'm passionate about
The first step however should be acknowledgement of the SAD facts.
Today, Americans – including fully 70 percent of older adults – are the most overweight or obese, overfed yet undernourished, overmedicated, sedentary, and depressed people on earth.
Almost all of the 15 leading causes of death in the U.S. can easily be called diet-related diseases.
Americans pay less for food than any other nation. However, due to the sickening effects of this meat-sweet diet they spend more on health care than any other country in the world.
I am here to help, if you belong to the 70 percent of older adults mentioned above.
You can help too. You can help make changes – not only in your life and health – but also in sharing with your peers that the Standard American Diet is killing us.
Don't just take my word. Find out for yourself.
Just because certain industries have huge and moneyed propaganda machines doesn't mean they have a hold on the truth. Look at both sides of the coin.
As more and more Americans (including the rapidly growing senior population) become aware of what's killing them prematurely, they will step away from the Standard American Diet and toward a whole foods, plant-based diet.
I am encouraged and inspired by what many of my visitors, readers and clients say.
I am very hopeful. The positive signs are everywhere.
